IMERU 50S: The “Pilot Lure” for Controlling the Current and Covering Water

By combining a buoyant body with a densely packed internal weight, IMERU 50S achieves both remarkable responsiveness for a sinking lure and exceptional casting distance.

Start with this lure to quickly locate where the fish are holding.

Action

A highly appealing wobble-and-roll action. IMERU stays stable even in strong current, gripping the water firmly and maintaining its swimming action without being pushed out of the strike zone.

Recommended Conditions

“When you need extra casting distance” — Ideal for large pools and open stretches of river.
“High water and strong current” — When you need the lure to remain stable even in heavy flow, such as after rainfall.
“When you want to search at a good pace” — Ideal for quickly covering water and picking up active fish.
“When fishing deeper water” — When you need to reliably reach depths of up to approximately 1.5 m.

Point: “Start with IMERU” is the basic approach. It is ideal for quickly and efficiently covering a wide area.

LAKS 50S: The “Finesse Weapon” for Low-Activity and Pressured Fish

With a lighter body and a more centrally positioned weight than IMERU, LAKS 50S has a more moderate sink rate.

This allows you to keep the lure in front of fish longer, making it highly effective for fish that do not respond to IMERU or are reluctant to chase a faster-moving lure.

Action

A natural action that is deliberately not overly aggressive. When twitched, LAKS 50S produces a powerful flashing action, using rapid changes between light and shadow to trigger reaction strikes.

Recommended Conditions

“Cold water / weak pursuit” — When fish are sluggish and unable to keep up with a fast-moving lure.
“High fishing pressure” — When fishing areas that have already been covered by other anglers and a more natural presentation is required.
“Low water / shallow areas” — Ideal for shallow water around 1 m deep or when water levels are low.

Point: If IMERU represents “movement,” LAKS is about the balance between “stillness and movement.” This is where LAKS truly shines — when targeting specific holding spots or fishing in tough conditions.

Example of a Lure Rotation on the Water

1. Start with IMERU 50S and search the area at a good pace.

2. Switch to LAKS 50S if no fish appear, if you see fish following the lure without striking, or if the lure does not seem to be settling naturally into the current.

3. Adjust the presentation with LAKS. Change the depth and observe the fish’s reaction. Use a different flashing action from IMERU, incorporate pauses and teasing movements, and vary the retrieve speed to trigger a strike.

The same approach applies if you choose to start with LAKS 50S.

By rotating between these two minnows, you can determine whether you need to fish shallower or deeper, whether to present the lure faster or slower, and whether the current color is the right choice. Adjusting your lure based on these factors is the fundamental approach to fishing with IMERU 50S and LAKS 50S.

COLOR

Silver & Gold Base

These are the fundamental colors for minnow fishing. Choose between silver and gold based on the available light and water clarity. Since these finishes rely on flash, think in terms of imitating baitfish and triggering reaction strikes with flashes of light.

Gold-based colors are particularly useful in low-light conditions, such as early morning, evening, and overcast weather. When the lure appears too reflective, a holographic or aluminum finish with a more subdued sheen can be a good alternative.

If visibility is the priority and you also want to trigger a reaction through color, choose a minnow with fluorescent elements. If the fish appear to be avoiding fluorescent colors, switch to a version without them.

Pearl Base (White / Ghost)

Pearl-based colors provide a moderate amount of visual appeal even in stained water, making them a good choice when conditions become murky.

If you want to keep the lure easy to see, choose a color with a brighter back. If you want to emphasize flashes of light and shadow, choose a darker back.

In clear water, if silver-based colors appear too bright or reflective, switching to a pearl-based color is another option. These colors can also become particularly effective from summer onward, so it is worth keeping one in your tackle box.

Terrestrial Colors

These colors become increasingly useful during the season when terrestrial insects begin falling into the water. Think of them as imitations of insects being washed or knocked into the stream.

Black-based colors create a strong silhouette in stained water while, unlike pearl or chartreuse colors, avoiding the visual effect of making the lure appear larger. They are particularly effective when imitating terrestrial insects being swept into the water during periods of high flow.

They also make an excellent next option when fish are not responding to silver, gold, or pearl-based colors.

Terrestrial colors are often left out of lure color lineups, but they are an important option for IMERU 50S and LAKS 50S, which can both be worked slowly and deliberately.

Chartreuse-based colors are especially effective during periods when grasshoppers, caterpillars, and other terrestrial insects are falling into the water. They are also a good choice in stained water or when targeting reaction strikes.

Their high visibility makes them easy to track, and when used effectively, they can help increase your catch rate.
