How To Use TMC Prismatic Thread

TMC Prismatic Thread

Crafted in Kyoto, Japan—a region world-renowned for its traditional Nishijin-ori kimono weaving—TMC Prismatic Thread is a fine, high-luster tinsel thread whose shine subtly changes depending on the light angle. While its fine profile might seem modest at first glance, this unique shimmer produces a remarkably irresistible, strike-enticing attraction under the water.

Unlike conventional tinsel products, TMC Prismatic Thread is made from durable polyester that offers exceptional tensile strength. It works wonderfully for simple applications like midge pupa bodies, as well as for ribbing to reinforce fly bodies—a role traditionally played by metal wire. It is especially recommended for ribbing dry flies when you want to keep the overall weight to a minimum. Naturally, it is also ideal for ribbing streamers, wet flies, and nymphs.

Because it comes on a large-format spool, we recommend pairing it with the TMC Ceramic Bobbin EVO - HD Long Arm for fast, precise, and waste-free tying.

A perfect match! It would be no exaggeration to say that the TMC Ceramic Bobbin EVO - HD Long Arm was developed specifically for the TMC Prismatic Thread!

Color Selection Tips (For Midge Hatch Matching)

When dark midges are hatching and fish are rising:

Recommended: Darker tones — 01 Peacock, 02 Brown, 06 Copper, 07 Blue, 08 Green, etc.

When light-colored midges are hovering near the surface and fish are rising:

Recommended: Lighter tones — 04 Yellow, 05 Pearl, etc.

When fish are expected to feed on midge larvae or pupae (regardless of visible rises):

Recommended: Reddish tones to imitate bloodworms (midge larvae) — 03 Red, 06 Copper, 09 Pink, etc.
